So, You Want to Get A Life?

I have deluded many people into thinking I have a life. And not just any life, but a cool life. So, today, I’ve decided to share my secrets. Sure, I could teach you how to fake it, but it’s actually a whole lot easier to actually just get a life. Here is how you do it:

1. Think of all the things you’d like to do.
2. Say to yourself, “Hmmm … what if I actually did those things?”
3. Do those things.

See how simple it is? When I was 18, I wanted to skydive. So I called up the local parachuting club and signed up. When I was 24, I read an article in the Sunday paper about a canoe trip in the Peruvian Amazon. So, I called and signed up. When I was 30, I wanted to start a community dance festival, so I called a lot of people, sent out invites, and – voila! – a dance festival was born.

As you can see, calling helps a lot in getting a life. So does saying “yes” at the proper moment. For instance, when I was asked if I wanted to be given a free plane ticket (roundtrip!), health insurance, room and board, and stipend to work on a tropical island (where I could actually bring my dog without quarantine), I said yes. That was key.

Basically, getting a life means actually doing things. The irony being that I’m sitting here blogging now which is kind of in the gray, limbo-area of having a life. But that’s okay – tomorrow I’ll be out having a life again. Hope to see you there!

Paris Hilton and the Shock of Wisdom

This may be the wisest thing Paris Hilton has ever said. It is actually profound and exhibits startling self-awareness. Could it be, can it even be possible, that my opinion of Paris Hilton is changing????

"I'm always playing a character," she says. "I don't talk like this really — like a baby. I don't act like myself in public, because I don't really want to show everyone the real me. Because I have no privacy whatsoever, the only thing I have is who I really am." - Paris Hilton

Wisdom At Last

Yikes, it's been three weeks since my last blog. I feel like I should give some all-hot, all-wild, singing-and-dancing blog entry just to make up for it.

Instead, I just think I'll list the major things I figured out in the last three weeks:

1. If you like it, that's good enough.

2. The universe shines on people who stay true to their course.

3. It's really hard to sleep when you're excited about something.

4. Sometimes the best thing is to crumple the tortilla chips into the guacamole and eat it with a spoon.

5. Playing Spanish Maid can be just as fun as playing French Maid.

6. Not doing something you don't want to do can feel better than doing something you do want to do.
